Holiday woohoo!

Arrived Malaga airport Thursday with Charlie, Phil and Floris.
Torremolinos Thursday night - surprisingly, very quiet.
Tangier Friday night - very interesting.
Tarifa Saturday night - very drunken! Top quality night out, this place is proper cool.

So three days in Tarifa now by myself before I fly home on Tuesday.

Today (Sunday):

We crawled out of our hostal around midday in a very sorry state after the excesses of the night before. Plan was to spend a couple of hours at the beach before going to have a look around Gibraltar, then I would make my way back to Tarifa, leaving Charlie/Phil/Floris to get back to Malaga to catch their flights on Monday.

Got to the beach, proper windy oh yes. Sorted out my hire kit from Spin Out and after a quick bite to eat, went out first on a Freewave 86L and 5.3. Poniente wind blowing cross-on, mucho gusty, but the 5.3 was just about the right size, and was set up absolutely perfectly (surprisingly for a hire sail), felt really nice. So did the board, very easy to sail, loose but quick. Had no problem banging out the gybes and got a couple of duck gybes in as well. The water was pretty flat, not much jumping potential, just very bumpy, but anyway was all going very well, just loving being out in the sunshine and having a decent sail at last.

Came in after about 45 mins and Charlie/Phil/Floris were whinging that they´d had enough of being sand-blasted on the beach and they wanted to go. Wasn´t sure what to do, really wanted to visit Gibraltar, but conditions were good here and wanted to make the most of them. Especially since forecast tomorrow is not very good. Decided to stay here, so I bid farewell to Charlie/Phil/Floris, and got back out on the water.

Wind was really picking up now. Changed down to an 81L Goya and 4.8. The sail felt horrible, really back-handed. Had to move the harness lines way back on the boom then it felt a bit better, but nothing like as good as that 5.3. Also I was a bit underpowered on the Goya - it felt much smaller than 81L. Changed back to the Freewave and kept the 4.8.

The tide was right up high now and a meaty shorebreak was developing. Got munched a fair few times, but praise be no kit damage. Also the water state was getting even bumpier, plus I was getting knackered. Stayed out until 5pm, at which point I was just too tired to carry on.

V good session, decent wind albeit a bit up and down, hot, sunshine, nice. Starboard tack today as well which always helps (was expecting to be sailing the port tack Levante winds all the time). Tarifa definitely gets the thumbs up so far.

Forecast tomorrow not good, but predicting a full strengh Levante on Tuesday. Should be able to get a few hours on the water before I have to catch the bus to Malaga in time for my flight at 2145.
